Title: You will lead the Fight
Teacher: Mrs. Kincaid
Theme: Freedom
Materials and techniques: Paint.
Did you enjoy this project? At the end we like how it tuned out. We worked hard and struggled on some parts. But, we worked together to fix things. We like the rays or light the most because they turned out good.
About: In this painting we illustrated the poem, From Shackles to Scholars.
In our painting we did a person in a cage to represent, you are a slave chained by shackles so tight, your life is darkness. After that we did four rays at light representing the phrase “But you yearn for sweet light.” Then we did some words and pictures on the rays of light. For example: k opportunities, freedom. We did the words and pictures showing what he wanted… you know you have worth, you will lead the fight.

Title: Dream
Teacher: Mrs. Kincaid
Theme: Freedom
Materials and techniques: Paint.
Did you enjoy this project? Yes.
About: A monstrous boat cuts through the water. The oceans wrath carried us across rough waves. The embrace of darkness felt like an isolated cave. A light of memories fill a void of night that leaked through the windows. As bleak to be, the pitch black walls around me shunned everything out. Staring out the window, hoping she won’t become a widow. The wind that blew through the cracks smelled like decay. I might have lost in reality gut I won’t loose my dreams.

Title: Hope
Teacher: Mrs. Kincaid
Theme: Freedom
Materials and techniques: Paint.
Did you enjoy this project? Yes.
About: The painting is telling a story of how slaves have hopes and dreams just like other people. All they want is to not be owned and be free. Slaves would sing beautiful songs expressing how much they were suffering. Slaves were working hard and treated brutally but the dream of freedom lived on in their heart.

Title: Escape
Teacher: Mrs. Kincaid
Theme: Freedom
Materials and techniques: Paint.
Did you enjoy this project? Yes.
About: The dark figure is a slave who was chained down by tight metal shackles. The darkness on the outside represents depression and hard times through his life. As it gets brighter at the end of the tunnel it represents his future and hopefulness. After years of struggling he did not give up and now his pain is over.
